Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Linux Desktop

I loaded Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) Linux Desktop on a 2 year old laptop last evening and I am simply amazed at times by how far Desktop Linux has come. The installation was easy and clean. After the installation, Ubuntu Linux told me that I needed a 158 updates or fixes since it was released, so I said okay, it download/install all the updates which went flawlessly. Details of what is Ubuntu Desktop Linux can be found at http:/www.ubuntu.com/products/WhatIsUbuntu/desktopedition. What really amazes me is that Ubuntu 7.10 Linux is free for the downloading, totally community supported, and just works. Just downloading those 158 updates is significant as the computer had to go out on the Internet, connect to a "free" repository, download them and then install them, without breaking anything! At our upcoming February meeting on February 7th, we will go through an install of this desktop and look at some of the new features.
